Privacy Policy

Effective 5 October 2026

The short version. Plipo has no accounts and no sign-up. Your plants, notes, chats and photos are stored on your phone. A photo you scan, and a question you ask in chat, are sent to our server once to be answered and are not stored there. We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.

This policy explains what the Plipo app for iPhone ("Plipo", "the app", "we", "us") collects, why, who processes it, and the choices you have. If you have a question, email leemint2802@gmail.com.

1. What stays on your phone

Your garden lives in a database on your device: plant names, species, locations, watering and feeding schedules, care you log, notes, diagnoses, chat conversations, and the photos you take (scans and growth photos). We don't have a copy. Deleting the app deletes this data. Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your phone; no reminder data is sent to us.

2. What leaves your phone, and why

Scans (diagnose and identify)

When you scan, the photo (resized to about 1600 pixels) is sent to our server, which passes it to our AI provider to identify the plant and look for disease. The answer comes back to your phone. Our server holds the photo in memory only for that request and never writes it to storage.

Chat

When you ask a question, your recent messages in that conversation are sent with it — at most the last 12 — and, if the conversation is about one of your plants, that plant's details: its name, species, location, schedule and last care dates, care guide, any open diagnosis and your five most recent notes about it. Plant photos are never sent with a chat message. If you're a Premium user and attach a photo, it is scanned as described above. Nothing from the conversation is stored on our server.

An anonymous install ID

On first launch the app creates a random identifier (a UUID) and keeps it in your iPhone's Keychain. It is not linked to your name, email or Apple ID. We use it to: count your free scan and your free chat questions per day; check whether you have Premium; and connect app analytics, crash reports and purchases to the same install, so we can tell, for example, whether people who turn on reminders keep using the app.

Purchases

Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details. Our subscription provider receives your purchase receipts from Apple together with the install ID, so that Premium unlocks on your devices and can be restored.

Usage analytics

The app records events such as "scan completed", "plant added", "reminders turned on", "paywall shown" or "timelapse exported", with details like the scan mode or which screen a paywall was opened from, plus basic device and app information (model, iOS version, app version, language). Events never contain your photos, the text of your notes or chat messages, or your plants' names.

Weather alerts (optional)

Weather alerts are off until you turn them on. If you do, the app asks iOS for your location with the coarsest accuracy it offers, only while the app is open, and rounds it on your phone to about 50 km (0.5°). Only that rounded area and your time zone are sent to our server, which asks Apple WeatherKit for the week's forecast and keeps it for three hours for everyone in the same area. The area is not stored with your install ID. You can turn alerts off in the app's Settings, or remove location access in iOS Settings.

Crash reports and app integrity

If the app crashes, a crash report (stack trace, device model, iOS and app version, install ID) is sent so we can fix it. Before talking to our server the app proves it is the genuine app on a real device (Apple App Attest via Firebase App Check); this involves a device-integrity token, not personal data. The app also downloads configuration values, such as how many free scans there are.

3. Who processes your data

ProviderWhat forWhat they receive
OpenAIIdentifying plants, diagnosing disease, answering chat questionsScan photos; chat messages and plant details as described above. Sent with storage turned off. Under OpenAI's API terms this data is not used to train their models; OpenAI may keep it for up to 30 days to detect abuse.

Each provider processes data on our behalf under its own terms and privacy policy. Some are in the United States, so your data may be processed outside your country.

4. What we don't do

5. How long we keep it

6. Your choices and rights

7. Children

Plipo isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, email us and we'll delete it.

8. Security

Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS). Our server only accepts requests from the genuine app, uses short-lived session tokens, and holds photos in memory only. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we keep what leaves your phone to a minimum.

9. Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll tell you in the app.
